When the Lord Walked Into Our Home

The Story of Our Saligrama Bhagwan

1. The Lifelong Yearning

In many Hindu traditions, it is believed that a Saligrama cannot simply be sought or bought. The Lord chooses His own abode; He arrives through His own divine arrangement when the time is right.

For years, we carried a quiet, unfulfilled desire in our hearts to welcome Saligrama Bhagwan into our home. Looking back, we realize the Lord wasn’t denying us; He was simply awaiting the perfect moment to reveal His plan. Our spiritual path often led us to Chitrakoot and nearby Rajapur, the sacred birthplace of Sant Tulsidas.  He is the famous author of Ramcharitamanas which made available the story of Lord Rama for common man to sing, perform and meditate on. There, on the peaceful banks of the Yamuna, we met the head pujari, of beautiful Rama temple - Sri Omkarnath Mishra ji—a soul whose devotion was as deep as the river itself.

None of us knew then that the Lord was quietly orchestrating a divine homecoming.

2. An Unexpected Benediction

During one of our visits, we found ourselves speaking with Panditji about the Tulsi plant. We shared how, even in the bustling heart of Mumbai, we lovingly nurtured Tulsi at home. Panditji paused, a thoughtful look crossing his face, before saying words that left us breathless:

“I have received an indication from the Lord. If you promise to worship Him with love, I wish to gift you a Saligrama.”

A desire we had carried in silence for a lifetime was being fulfilled through pure grace. On December 28th, 2018, the Lord walked into our home.

Panditji later shared that this Saligrama Bhagwan had been with his family in the temple since his father’s time. He estimated the Lord had resided in that temple for nearly 120 years. Today, having been with us for nearly eight years, He is approximately 128 years old. For over a century, He stayed quietly on the banks of the Yamuna before deciding it was time to move into the home of His devotees.

3. The Divine Traveler

Over time, a beautiful realization dawned upon us: Perhaps after a century in the temple, the Lord desired to see the world through the eyes of His devotees.

Since His arrival, He has never stayed behind. He accompanies us on every yatra to the sacred dhams of India. Our car is named Nandi Ghosh, inspired by Lord Jagannath’s divine chariot, for Lord Jagannath resides with us as well. We have come to feel that these journeys are not ours at all. We are merely nimitta matra—instruments in His divine play. He decides the destination; we simply follow.

4. From Yamuna to Yamuna: The Sacred Circle

The geography of His journey touched us deeply. Rajapur, where He stayed for a hundred years, sits on the banks of the Yamuna. Through a series of miracles, He traveled first to Mumbai, only to ensure that after retirement, we would move to Vrindavan.

From one bank of the Yamuna in Rajapur...

to the coast of Mumbai...

and finally back to the Yamuna in Braj Dham- Vrindavana.

The Lord quietly orchestrated this grand circle. This is the beauty of His leela.

5. A Shield of Grace

Within just a month of His arrival, the Lord’s protection became tangible. I was involved in three separate incidents—a car accident and two serious falls while plucking flowers and pomegranates for His worship. In every instance, what should have resulted in severe injury ended without a single scratch.

These were not coincidences - Lord's way of remaining anonymous; they were gentle reminders of His unseen hand. Looking back, one truth remains: The Lord does not merely sit upon an altar. He walks with us, protects us, and fulfills His divine will through us.

We thought we were bringing the Lord into our home.

But all along, He was the one guiding us to His destination.

Hare Krishna.

It was heartening to read the way you describe the journey of “your” Saligrama - the one given to you “to be taken care of lovingly”. On the one hand it was shocking and worrying to read about the three miraculous escapes, it was also a relief that He came to protect you - “rakshayati rakshitam” . You being carer of the Saligrama! Reading of the description of the accident sent a chill down my spine!” It was a miracle ( made by who?) that you all walked from free from the manglemetal wreck! No wonder you calmly describe the journey with equanimity! I am surer the list of volunteers ready to look after the said Saligrama is growing steadily! Truly “ man proposes, God disposes!”
